Abstract

Objective: To test the validity and reliability of the instrument to measure the health education competence of nurses. Subject and method: 150 nurses working in clinical departments of 108 Military Central Hospital at the time of the study. Method: Conducted with 3 steps: Step 1. Investigation and trial on 150 nurses; Step 2. Validation through factor analysis and group validity; Step 3. Check reliability by calculating Cronbach alpha and Test-retest values. Result: 1. Validity: From the 51- initial items in 3 domains, rotating factor analysis gave results consistent with 45 items: domain knowledge (2 factor - 15 items), domain skills (3 factor - 22 items), domain attitudes (1 factor - 8 items), explaining the variation in 3 domains, 62.61%, 64.48% and 82.07%, respectively. The group of nurses trained in health education had higher knowledge, skills and attitudes than the untrained group with p<0.05, the nursing group with long working experience had knowledge points, skills and attitudes were higher than that of the new nursing group with p<0.01 (in agreement with the research results of María Pueyo). 2. Reliability: The intrinsic reliability of the toolkit is evaluated well with the Cronbach alpha value of each element and the whole scale from 0.84 to 0.95; Repetitive reliability was evaluated well with the ICC correlation coefficient ranging from 0.97 to 0.99. Conclusion: The health education capacity measurement instrument meets the requirements for validity and reliability.
