Pruritus and associated factors in patients with psoriasis

Abstract

Objective: To determine the frequency of itch and its correlation with some clinical characteristics of psoriatic patients at Ho Chi Minh city Hospital of Dermato-Venereology. Subject and method: A descriptive cross-sectional study includes 83 patients with psoriasis. Result: All of psoriatic patients have itching symptom and 96.4% patients suffered from a chronic itch. Itch predominatly involved legs, scalp and back. Psoriasis area and Severity Index (PASI) was stastistically higher in patients with intense itch in comparison with patients with mild itch (p<0.001). Conclusion: Pruritus is very common in psotiatic patients. Therefore, improving the management of itch can provide better treatment outcome for psoriatic patients.
