Abstract
Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of combination two procedures: radiofrequency facet joint denervation and transforaminal steroid injection for the treatment of patients with chronic low back pain and radiculopathy at Neurosurgery Department, University Medical Center HCMC. Subject and method: Non-randomized intervention study of 40 patients with chronic low back pain and radiculopathy treated by a percutaneous radiofrequency denervation and transforaminal steriod injection from 02/2020 to 02/2022 at Neurosurgery Department, University Medical Center in Ho Chi Minh city. Result: At 1 week, 4 weeks and 12 weeks post-procedure follow-up, the VAS score (5 ± 1.3, 3.4 ± 1.3, and 3.1 ± 1) were significantly lower than pre-procedure VAS score (7.2 ± 0.7). Post-procedure ODI at 4 weeks (31.4 ± 9.2) and 12 weeks (25.5 ± 8.4) were significantly better than pre-procedure (60.4 ± 10.3). One transient motor weekness was observed in the study. Conclusion: Radiofrequency facet denervation could be use as a efficiency and safety method in the treatment of carefully selected patients with the chronic low back pain.
