Abstract

Objective: To evaluate of anterior cervical vertebral interbody bone grafting using PEEK cage and artificial bone. Object and method: Retrospective 32 patients with one to three-story cervical disc herniation, who had anterior disc herniation, fixation and PEEK cage at the Department of Neurosurgery and Spine surgery - Nghe An Orthopedics Hospital. Result: The study has 32 cases, in which the mean age is 60 ± 7.1 years old. Male/female = 2.2/1. The average follow-up time was 12.56 ± 3.57 months. Distribution of the disease according to the number of hernias: 56.25% patients with single-stage hernias. Distribution by location of herniation: 48 herniation sites: 64.58% cases in C4C5, C5C6. 24 patient accorded to the pathology of the pulp and roots. The average time of surgery was 126.25 minutes. The average amount of blood loss was 47.5 ± 12.18ml. The mean JOA score before surgery was 9.19, the average JOA score at the last visit was 15.56 ± 0.98. The recovery rate in our study batch with very good was 68.75% and good results was 31.25%, the average recovery rate was 83.13%. X-ray results showed that the healing rate for 1-layer high bone welding (92.90%), the rate of bone healing decreased with the number of layers. There was no relationship between bone healing results with JOA scores or recovery rates. Conclusion: ACDF surugery with a PEEK cage is an effective and safe method for cervical disc herniation. Maintain arching of the cervical spine and avoid complications from pelvic crest grafting
