Abstract

Objective: To assess the quality of life through the SF-36 questionnaire in patients with low back pain. Subject and method: A cohort, prospective study, 52 patients diagnosed with low back pain. Clinical laboratory characteristics and the quality of life were assessed by SF-36 questionnaire at the time of admission and after treatment. Result: The average age was 54.96 ± 13.61 years old. 65.4% of patients were under 60 years old, women accounted for 57.7%, intellectual work and retirement accounted for 63.5%. On MRI images, 84.6% of patients had images of lumbar degeneration, 73.1% of the patients had intervertebral disc herniation. The average VAS of vertebral column and nerve root VAS at the time of admission was 6.13 ± 1.54 and 4.17 ± 2.19, respectively. The score of physical health, mental health and quality of life at the time of admission was 29.75, 61.62 and 42.14 points, respectively, 48.1% of patients with poor physical health when hospitalized. After treatment, the patient’s quality of life was improved, difference with p<0.01. Factors affecting the quality of life of patients with low back pain at the time of admission were older adults, severe pain. Conclusion: Low back pain has a great influence on the quality of life of patients. The treatment is effective in improving the quality of life of patients.
