Abstract
Objective: To evaluate nutritional status in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis treated at 108 Military Central Hospital, and to assess some factors that related to malnutrition in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis. Subject and method: 50 patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis treated at Institute of Gastroenterology, 108 Military Central Hospital, from January 2019 to May 2020. Clinically assessment of nutritional status was done based on body mass index (BMI). Result: Mean age of patients was 53.4 ± 8.3 years; most common ages were from 40 - 60 years old (accounting for 80%), male predominant. The rate of malnutrition (BMI < 18.5) was 36% (mild 32%, moederate 4%). Malnutrition was seen more common in alcoholic liver cirrhosis than in virus hepatitis-related cirrhosis. The longer of disease progression, the higher risk of malnutrition. There was also a relation between malnutrition and the severity of cirrhosis assessed by Child-Pugh scroe. However, there were no relation between malnutrition and aged groups, physical geography or presence of liver cancer. Conclusion: Malnutrition is common in decompensated liver cirrhosis. Alcoholism, the prolonging of diseases and severity of liver cirrhosis are among risk factors for malnutrition. Apart from medication, nutritition support should be noticed to improve the efficacy of treatment and quality of life for patients with liver cirrhosis.
