Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of improving the quality of patient care and reducing errors in after applying the lean management model at the Emergency Department, 108 Military Central Hospital. Subject and method: Improving and streamlining the patient emergency process according to DMAIC cycle, divided into 5 steps: Identifying, measuring, analyzing, improving, controlling. The project is conducted in 2 phases, phase I: From October 2018 to April 2019 at the Emergency Department - 108 Military Central Hospital, phase II from June 2019 to December 2019. Result: After the intervention, the compliance rate of nursing procedures was higher than before the intervention, technique for changing bandages (10.9%) and the technique for taking medicine for patients (7.3%), technique for suction of phlegm (7.3%), the rate of delayed drug use, wrong name of brand name, wrong dose of drug decreased after intervention, the proportion of patients received later from the triage decreased by 5.8% (from 7.5% to 1.7%), the rate of errors in insurance assessment decreased by 5.8%. Conclusion: After implementing the second phase of the Lean management model, the nursing process compliance rate increased, and errors decreased.
