Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the nutritional status and related factors in patients before and after colorectal cancer surgery. Subject and method: A prospective study of 61 colorectal cancer patients treated by surgery at 108 Military Central Hospital from May to September 2022. Result: Mean age 63.2, male patients 65.6%. There were 29.5% malnutrition according to BMI before surgery, increasing to 36.1% after surgery. Assessed by SGA, 26.2% were moderately malnourished before surgery and 8.2% were severely malnourished, this rate after surgery was 41.0% and 9.8%, respectively. All cases of emergency surgery and stage IV cancer had post-operative malnutrition. There was no significant relationship between the rate of postoperative complications in the group with and without malnutrition (p>0.05). Conclusion: Nutritional deficiencies accounted for a relatively high rate in patients after colorectal cancer surgery. In-depth studies are needed to evaluate and plan nutritional interventions, contributing to improving treatment effectiveness.
