Abstract

Gout is a purine metabolic disorder that increases uric acid in the body and monosodium urate crystal deposition in tissues, a rare disease in the head and neck region, especially in the larynx. We report a case: A 37-year-old male patient, with a history of gout over 10 years, presented with hoarseness 3 months before admission, the initial lesion suspected of vocal cord cancer. Direct endoscopic biopsy results: Urate crystal deposition due to gout in the vocal cords. In the world, there are very few reports of gout manifesting in the larynx, in these report tophi of soft tissues in the larynx are extremely rare. This article, we discuss the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment for this case.
