Abstract

Spinal extradural arachnoid cyst (SEAC) is a rare disease that accounts for < 1% of all spinal epidural lesions. The most accepted theory is that they are formed by the protrusion of the arachnoid through a defect in the dura, they progressively increase in size through physiological Ball valve. Surgical indications are pain and neurologic deficits. Most of the articles agree on the need to detect and repair dural defects. However, there are different opinions regarding the need for complete excision of the cyst. In this article, on a case of large-sized spinal extradural cyst with multiple vertebrae erosion in the thoracic-lumbar region, the authors review the literature to emphasize some essential points in the diagnosis and treatment of the SEACs.
