Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the results of radical cystectomy followed by the ileal orthotopic bladder subtitution with Abol-Enein’s technique. Subject and method: A retrospective descriptive case serial study was performed on 47 male patients with locally advanced bladder cancer who underwent radical cystectomy followed by the ileal orthotopic bladder subtitution with Abol-Enein’s technique at Department of Urology, 108 Military Central Hospital, from March 2018 to August 2022. Result: Mean age was 61.2; mean operation time 326 mins; operative blood loss estimated at 545 ml with 19.1% of intra-operative and 40.4% of post-operative transfusion. The bowel recovered after 2.26 days; the 2 ureteral double J stents were removed in 28 days and the mean urethral catheterization time was 16.8 days, postoperatively. The hospital stay was 20 days. Postoperative inpatient complications: urosepsis 2.1%, neobladder’s leakage 8.5%, partial bowel obstruction 6.4%; there was no postoperative mortality. Conclusion: The radical cystectomy followed by the ileal orthotopic bladder substitution is a complicated procedure with severe intra- and peri-operative complications.
