Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the results of C1C2 fixation using Harm's technique at the Department of Neurosurgery - 108 Military Central Hospital. Subject and method:      Twenty-one patients with C1C2 fixation by Harms' technique, including epidemiological indicators, Nurick’s score, surgical methods, operative time, intraoperative and postoperative complications were collected retrospectively. The results of long-term follow-up include clinical status and CT scan images after 12 months. Result:     The patients’ mean age was 46.19 years old, the mean operative time was 128 minutes, the average follow-up time was 32.81 months. There were no neurovascular complications. 100% of patients had bone union at the time of final follow-up. Patients with preoperative neurological deficits had good recovery. Conclusion: Surgical fixation of C1C2 using Harms' technique is a safe technique with high bone fusion rate. It was recommended as a first choice for C1C2 instability.
