Assessment of nutritional status of patients before and after gastric cancer surgery at 108 Military Central Hospital

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the nutritional status of patients before and after gastric cancer surgery. Subject and method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 60 patients surgery gastric cancer at 108 Military Central Hospital from June 2021 to December 2021. Using nutritional assessment method according to Subjective Global Assessment (SGA). Result: The mean age of the patients was 59.89. The mean SGA score before surgery was 10.11, decreased to 7.3 at 7 days after surgery and increased to 8.09 after 1 month of surgery. Before surgery, the percentage of patients with good nutrition was 86.7%; mild and moderate malnutrition was 13.3%. After 7 days of surgery, most of the patients were mildly malnourished (81.7%). At 1 month postoperatively, the proportion of mild and moderate malnutrition patients decreased to 55.0%. Conclusion: Assessing the nutritional status of patients before an after gastric cancer surgery is an easy method to implement, plays an important role, thereby planning nutritional interventions in time to help patients recover early, contributing to reducing the rate of complications and improving the effectiveness of treatment.
