Abstract

Objective: To describe knowledge, practice on safe intravenous injection and some related factors of nurses in Oncology Center-Cho Ray Hospital in 2021. Subject and method: A cross-sectional study design was employed. Data were collected using a pre-designed questionare to assess knowledge via face-to-face interviews and observations practice according to the safe intravenous injection checklist of 110 nurses from March 2021 to August 2021. Result: The proportion of nurses with comprehensive correct knowledge on safe intravenous injection was 85.5%; The percentage of nurses had safe intravenous injection practice at all procedure was 59.1%. The nursing group aged 30 and over who had not achieved intravenous injection practice 3.36 times as much as the group under-30 years (OR = 3.36, 95% CI: 1.5 - 7.6); nursing group with more than 10 years of working experience had not achieved intravenous injection practice 2.48 times as much as the group less than 10 years (OR = 2.48, 95% CI: 1.1 - 5.7). Conclusion: The rate of nurses with comprehensive correct knowledge on safe intravenous injection (85.5%) was higher than the rate of nurse with safe injection practice (59.1%). Related factors with safe intravenous injection were age and years of working experience (p<0.05).
