Abstract

Objective: To investigate some factors affecting the quality of life of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. Subject and method: Prospective, cross-sectional study by interviewing 66 patients with metastatic colorectal cancer through QOL-CR 29 quality of life questionnaires. Result: The functional aspects with a high rate of poor quality were anxiety about illness (28.8%); worry about weight (15.2%); concern about body image (7.6%). The symptom aspects of high quality were: colostomy care (21.1%), hair loss (18.2%), and urinary frequency (15.2%, respectively). Women had poorer emotional quality and worry about weight more than men. Patients with concomitant metastases were more concerned with disease than patients with asynchronous metastases. Hair loss, incontinence increased with chemotherapy. Conclusion: Factors that adversely affect the quality of life in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer include: Female gender (emotional, weight anxiety), concomitant metastasis (worry about illness), and chemotherapy (hair loss, bowel incontinence).
