Evaluation on quality of life in cancer patients at Department of General Oncology, 108 Military Central Hospital

Abstract
Objective: To describe Quality of Life (QoL) of cancer patients and factors affecting QoL of cancer patients. Subject and method: A descriptive, cross-sectional, prospective study was conducted on 100 cancer patients at General Oncology Department, 108 Military Central Hospital from March 2021 to March 2022. Result: The global health status score of the study patients was 45.83 (SD = 23.73), of which the activity and physical functioning scores were 69.33 and 80.50, respectively. For the symptom scales, the symptoms with the highest scores were faitigue (48.11), appetite loss (43.33), and insomnia (39.00). The point of financial difficulties was 52.83. Scores of general health status of the study patients suffering stage 1, 2, 3, 4 cancer were 55.33, 42.02, 48.09, and 45.83, respectively (p<0.05). The score of both divorced and legally separated groups was equally 33.33, lower than that of the other groups, single-, widowed and married-groups (ranged from 45.48 - 62.50) (p<0.05). Conclusion: Cancer patients had poor global QoL. They had some quite good aspects of life, such as physical, activities, social, cognitive, and emotional functionings. Financial difficulties and symptoms of faitigue, appetite loss, insomia greatly affected their QoL. Several factor associated with QoL of cancer patients were stages of cancer, and martial status.
