Abstract

Objective: To assess the risk of falling in elderly impatients and initially research some related factors. Subject and method: A descriptive cross-sectional design. The study was conducted on 45 impatients over 60 years old at Neurology Department, 108 Military Central Hospital from April to July, 2021. Using Tinetti fall scale to assess the risk of falling. Result: Patients mean age was 68.4 ± 6.17 years; 71.1% were males. The rate of falls in the last 2 year ago was 22.2%, factors such as sensory abnormalities, musculoskeletal diseases, and neurological diseases related to falls in the last 2 years were statistically significant with p<0.05. Tinetti's mean points were 21.47 ± 7.07; 31.1% of high-risk patients according to Tinetti scale, 35.7% of high-risk patients according to Tinetti score had fall. Conclusion: The elderly had a higher risk of falls. It increased with those following conditions including musculoskeletal diseases, visual impairment, hearing loss and neurological diseases. The group of patients with a low Tinetti score had a increased risk than the other groups. Hence, this group needed more evaluation and more interventions to reduce the risk of falls.
