Abstract
Dysphagia is a common neurological symptom of stroke and portends a higher risk of complication after stroke, particularly pneumonia, aspiration. Studies have shown that dysphagia affects up to two-thirds of patients with stroke, depending on the stroke’s type, size, site and severity. Dysphagia in patients with stroke has been associated with higher risk of pneumonia, mortality and disability. Detect early swallowing difficulties in patients with acute ischemic to prevent, impairment of complication, function of swallowing, impairment of humeral and neural systems. Objective: To identify the incidence of the dysphagia in patients with acute ischemic stroke admitted at the Stroke Centre of the 108 Military Central Hospital, and investigate the association of the risk of developing dysphagia following acute ischemic stroke. Subject and method: The subjects were 107 patients with acute ischemic admitted within 72 hours after the beginning of symptoms, was dysphagia screening by GUSS (the Gugging Swallowing Screening) at the Stroke Centre of the 108 Military Central Hospital from 2/2019 to 10/2019. Result: Dysphagia was present in 41.1% of the patients. 43.1% of the patients with dysphagia requiring tube feeding, In-hospital pneumonia occurred in 9.0% patients with dysphagia. Conclusion: The rate of dysphasia in patient with acute ischemic was 41.1%. Lower Glasgow score, higher NIHSS score, brain stem ischemic was associated with the presence of dysphagia.
