Improving the knowledge of patients and their family members about the care

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate an innovative program to improve the knowledge of patients and their family members about care at the Department of Thoracic surgery, Bach Mai Hospital. Subject and method: A quasi-experimental study was conducted from April to June 2019. All eligible patients who met the inclusion criteria were recruited in this study. Result: The percentages of patients/family members who correctly answered questions related to the general information (before (B): 60.0%, after (A): 100%); preoperative bathing & personal sanitary (B: 50.0%, A: 93.3%); pre and postoperative eating and drinking (B: 55.8%, A: 80.8%); preoperative enema (B: 45.8%, A: 78.3%; pre and postoperation rehabilitation (B: 41.6%, A: 83.3%); and pre and postoperative special care (B: 40.0%, A: 70.8%). Conclusion: The intervention had a positive impact on the knowledge of patients and their family members about care.
