Abstract

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) corneal endotheliitis is an inflamamation of corneal endothelium caused by CMV. It typically presents as coin-shaped keratic precipitates or linear keratic precipitates (KPs). CMV-related corneal endotheliitis rarely presents in diffuse form. It may be associated with anterior uveitis and raise intraocular pressure (IOP). Besides Herpes simplex virus (HSV), Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) - CMV has been considered as an etiologic agent in patients with corneal endotheliitis owing to CMV DNA detected from the aqueous humour of the patient via polymerase chain reaction (PCR). In this paper, we present a rarely diffuse corneal endotheliitis patient with positive CMV based on PCR detection of CMV DNA and discuss some practical issuses related to diagnosis and treatment of CMV corneal endotheliitis.
