Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the awareness of military medical students about the role of models, simulations in learning nursing practice skills. Subject and method: 316 second-year Military Medical students learned basic nursing practice in Training and Simulation Center - Vietnam Military Medical University from October 2020 to March 2021. Comparative intervention study. Results: Students' awareness of the benefits of models, simulations in practicing nursing skills before and after learning increased from 3.32 ± 0.63 to 4.4 ± 0.54, statistically significant with p<0.05. Students' awareness of self-learning ability when practicing on models, simulations before and after learning increased from 3.17 ± 0.22 to 4.46 ± 0.29, statistically significant with p<0.05. Students' awareness of initiative in learning when practicing on models, simulations before and after learning increased from 3.02 ± 0.56 to 4.45 ± 0.33, statistically significant with p<0.05. The overall average point, which reached good level, of awareness of military medical students about the role of models, simulations in teaching nursing practice skills after the intervention increased from 3.1 ± 0.45 to 4.42 ± 0.4, statistically significant with p<0.05. Conclusion: Before studying, the awareness of military medical students about the role of models, simulations in learning practical nursing skills was still at an average level. After studying, students have better awareness of the role, importance, and benefits of model-based training and simulation in the formation of nursing skills.
