Abstract
Objective: This study was performed to analyze the genetic diversity of the mitochondrial cox1 gene among Clonorchis sinensis populations isolated in Ninh Binh and Phu Tho provinces, Vietnam. Subject and method: cox1 gene of 8 small liver flukes collected from humans in Ninh Binh (3 individuals) and Phu Tho (5 individuals) were sequenced then compared with each other and reference sequences on the GenBank for species identification and analyzing of nucleotide variations. Result: The comparison between C. sinensis isolated in Ninh Binh, Phu Tho and reference sequences on the GenBank indicated 13 nucleotide variations in the cox1 gene. There are 11 variations between Ninh Binh and Phu Tho isolations, of which mainly at 9 variable sites no. 66, 114, 243, 381, 933, 954, 1137, 1244, 1380. Conclusion: Cox1 gene sequencing of C. sinensis flukes in Ninh Binh and Phu Tho provides important information that can be used to determine the genetic diversity of small liver fluke in different geographical regions in Vietnam
