Abstract

Objective: To assess some factors related to sarcopenia among older osteoporosis patients. Subject and method: A cross-sectional study was conducted in National Geriatrics Hospital. Sarcopenia was defined by using AWGS 2019 criteria. Some related factors with sarcopenia were general characteristics, calcinemia, Vitamin D, lipid disorders, geriatric characteristics including frailty, disabilities and physical activity. Result: A total of 143 osteoporosis older patients was recruited in the study (mean age 72.8 ± 8.7 years). BMI was significantly associated with sarcopenia in study population (p<0.001). The rate of severe sarcopenia was significantly lower in lacking vitamin D group (33%) than in normal group (12%). Conclusion: Some factors associated with sarcopenia in older osteoporosis patients were age, BMI and vitamin D. Early screening stratergy for sarcopenia among those patients was neccesary
