Abstract

Objective: To find out some factors associated with multiple chronic conditions in the elderly patients. Subject and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 784 participants aged 60 and older who were examined and treated at National Geriatric Hospital in 2019. Multiple chronic conditions was defined as the coexistence of at least two chronic condition. Result: Average age of study subjects was 71.19 ± 8.32 years. Female accounted for 55.5%. The prevalence of multiple chronic conditions was 87.8% with the highest rate was hypertension (78.1%). Multivariate regression results showed that there was a statistically significant difference between multimorbidity and body mass index (95%CI: 1.110 - 1.334), frailty syndrome (95% CI: 1.171 - 3.468), polypharmacy (95%CI: 1.047 - 2.771). Conclusion: The prevalence of multiple chronic conditions among elderly patients was high, the most common disease was hypertension. Chronic multimorbidity is associated with frailty syndrome and body mass index, polypharmacy.
