Abstract

Objective: To study the clinical characteristics, risk factors and damage peripheral artery in type 2 diabetic patients with chronic peripheral arterial disease. Subject and method: 180 patients was confirmed chronic peripheral arterial disease by percutaneous intervention (including 90 patients with type 2 diabetes (study group) and 90 patients without diabetes (control group)), inpatient treatment at vascular surgery department, Cho Ray Hospital from October 2015 to October 2018. Result: The mean age of diabetic patients with chronic peripheral arterial disease was 70.8 ± 10.6 years old, lower than the control group (74.2 ± 11.8 years old), with p<0.05. Overweight, obesity were risk factors in the study group (30% compared with 10% in the control group), diabetic patients discovered chronic peripheral arterial disease at last stage more than the control group (50% had necrosis corresponding to Rutherford stage 6 (this rate was 25.6% in the control group) 67.8% of patients with type 2 diabetes had lesions equal to 3 arteries in which the mostly occluded of the arteries below the knee (the rate occlusion of the anterior tibial, posterior tibial, and peroneal arteries, respectively, were 50%, 47.8%, 20%), statistically significant higher than the control group. Conclusion: Type 2 diabetic patients with chronic peripheral arterial disease often have diffuse lesions of the arteries below the knee, overweight and obesity are risk factors compared with patients without diabetes.
