Successful treatment of a type IA endoleak complication after endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm with Heli-FX EndoAnchor system

Abstract

Heli-FX EndoAnchor system is one of the most advanced endovascular tools for the repair of type I endoleaks and could potentially be used to prevent endoleaks in high risk patients. We report the use of Medtronic Heli-FX EndoAnchors for endovascular treatment of a proximal type I endoleak after previous endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) of an unruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm. Presentation of case: A 59-year-old man was referred for abdominal pain had been treated with EVAR after an unruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm. Standard computed tomographic angiography follow-up demonstrated a proximal type I endoleak combined stent migration 5mm. The endoleak was treated with an approach using the Heli-FX EndoAnchors with a placement of a proximal extension cuff. The procedure was successful excluding the aneurysm sac from the circulation, and computed tomographic angiography follow-up after 3 months showed no residual type I endoleak or migration. Conclusion: Heli-FX EndoAnchor system can be safely used in the prevention and treatment of proximal type I endoleaks in challenging aortic necks patients, with good results.
