Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the technique of lymph node dissection along the recurrent laryngeal nerves in laparoscopic esophagectomy for esophageal cancer. Subject and method: 29 patients with middle and lower third esophageal cancer underwent laparoscopic esophagectomy combined with lymphadenectomy procedures  along the recurrent laryngeal nerves from May 2019 to August 2020 at the Department of Gastrointestinal Tract Surgery - 108 Military Central Hospital. Recorded data on patient and tumor characteristics, surgical features, postoperative complications, postoperative lymphadenopathy. Result: 100% of patients were men. 93.09% of patients received adjuvant treatment before surgery. Pathological results: Tumors in stage T1, T2 accounted for 79.3%, 41.27% had lymph node metastasis, the rate of lymph node metastasis along the left laryngeal nerve was 6.89%, the rate of lymph node metastasis along the right laryngeal nerve was 10.34%. The most common complications was hoarseness (17.24%). There were no surgical deaths. Conclusion: The technique of lymph node dissection along the recurrent laryngeal nerves is safe and effective in laparoscopic esophagectomy for esophageal cancer.
