Đại dịch COVID-19 đang là một vấn đề hết sức nghiêm trọng ảnh hưởng đến hàng triệu người trên toàn thế giới. Virút SARS-CoV-2 thâm nhập vào tế bào người qua thụ cảm thể ACE2 và gây hội chứng viêm phổi cấp. Những bệnh nhân có bệnh tim mạch như đái tháo đường, tăng huyết áp, béo phì, suy tim…có tiên lượng xấu và tỉ lệ tử vong cao. Vai trò của các thuốc ức chế men chuyển, ức chế thụ thể và ức chế neprilysin rất quan trọng và đang được nghiên cứu tích cực. Một số các thuốc được coi là có khả năng điều trị COVID-19 cũng có tác dụng phụ trên hệ tim mạch và cần phải xem xét trước khi bắt đầu điều trị.
