Abstract

Objective: To determine the changes in serum zinc concentration in serum erythrodermic psoriasis patients compared with healthy subjects. Subject and method: Cross-sectional description, 36 patients were diagnosed with erythrodermic psoriasis at National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology and 32 were healthy. Concentration of substances measured by atomic absorption spectrometry. Result: There was a significant decrease in serum zinc concentration of erythrodermic psoriasis group (0.617 ± 0.112mg/l) compared to the control group (0.847 ± 0.148mg/l), p<0.001. Conversely, the mean serum copper concentration of erythrodermic psoriasis patients (1.246 ± 0.274mg/l) were significantly higher than in control group (1.1 ± 0.32mg/l), p<0.05. There was no association between zinc and copper levels with age and sex. Conclusion: There was a decrease in zinc levels and increased serum copper concentration in patients with erythrodermic psoriasis.
